When a parent's housing needs change
Housing decisions for an older adult rarely arrive at a convenient time. The current home may no longer fit, costs may have changed, or the family may simply want a plan before a decision is forced. Adult children often end up coordinating it from a distance, around work and their own households.
Senior housing navigation gives that process a structure. We start by understanding the older adult's goals, budget, needs and timeline, then organize the options, documents and next steps so the family is working from one plan.
Who this is for
- Adult children helping an aging parent
- Older adults exploring a housing transition
- Families navigating accessibility-related housing needs
How we help
Planning the housing transition
Clarifying the goal, the timeline and who in the family is responsible for what.
Identifying suitable housing options
Helping you understand and evaluate options against budget, location and day-to-day needs.
Organizing documentation
Identifying the documents housing providers and programs commonly request and getting them in order.
Navigating applications
Understanding each provider's requirements and preparing application materials.
Accessibility considerations
Building functional and accommodation needs into the housing criteria from the start.
Researching community resources
Identifying public and community resources that may be relevant. Each program decides its own eligibility and funding.
A Personalized Housing Action Plan
A written roadmap with the housing goal, key barriers, priorities, potential resources, recommended strategy and specific next steps.
Understanding accessibility considerations
Accessibility is a housing question as much as a health one. Stairs, entryways, bathroom layout, parking, and distance from family, transportation and everyday services all affect whether a home will keep working for someone.
We treat these as criteria in the housing plan, based on what the client and family tell us. We do not perform medical, clinical or functional assessments, and we do not recommend care or treatment.
What senior housing navigation is not
Simon Resources provides nonclinical housing navigation. We do not provide medical care, mental-health treatment or legal advice, and we do not guarantee housing placement or approval.
Older adults make their own housing decisions and agree to terms directly with housing providers. Our role is to help the client and family understand the options and stay organized.
